French Chamber Music Concert

Programme to include piano trios by Gabriel Fauré and Maurice Ravel, and a selection of songs by Cécile Chaminade and Lily Boulanger.

Meinir Wyn Roberts (Soprano)
Welsh Soprano, Meinir Wyn Roberts’ recent highlights include cover First Lady in the Magic Flute for Welsh National Opera and her role debut as Magda La Rondine with IF Opera, she subsequently covered this role for Opera North. She Joined Sir Bryn Terfel as a Guest Soloist for his his UK Songs and Arias autumn tour of the UK and was a Semifinalist in
the Concurs Josep Palet International Competition in Barcelona. Other recent engagements include The Milliner Der Rosenkavalier, cover Melissa Amadigi for Garsington Opera and cover Musetta La bohéme for Mid Wales Opera. She was soprano soloist in Mid Wales Opera’s Sounds of Summer – Garden Concert and sang the role of Jini on the soundtrack of a new Operatic Welsh Film of the novel Un Nos Ola Leuad for OPRA Cymru with the orchestra of Welsh National Opera. She was also the soprano soloist in Scottish Opera’s Autumn Opera Highlights Tour.
Other highlights include her role debut as Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream for Nevill Holt Opera, Donna Elvira Don Giovanni for Opera Cymru and in concert with the Covent Garden Chamber Orchestra, and cover Noémie Cendrillon for Glyndebourne Touring Opera.
Television broadcasts include performances on ‘Noson Lawen,’ ‘Heno’ and ‘Dechrau Canu, Dechrau Canmol’ for S4C.
She is a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music.
Roles as a member of Royal Academy Opera included the title role in Alcina, Donna Elvira Don Giovanni, Minerve Orphee aux enfers and Tina Flight and Polly Peachum Die
Dreigroschenoper. Meinir performed in recital at the Wigmore Hall as part of the Royal
Academy Song Circle Group as well as the role of Agilea in Handel’s Teseo at the London Handel Festival.
Prizes and awards include the 2015 International Voice of the Future Competition at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, the W. Towyn Roberts Scholarship, the Osborne Roberts Blue Riband Scholarship and the Violet Mary Lewis Scholarship at the National
Eisteddfod of Wales. Whilst at the Royal Northern College of Music, she was a finalist in the prestigious Gold Medal Competition, highly commended in the Frederic Cox Award for Singing and was a recipient of the Elizabeth Harwood Memorial Award and Dame Eva Turner Award.

Rosie Biss (cello)
Rosie Biss is Principal Cello with the Welsh National Opera and enjoys a varied career as chamber musician, soloist, guest principal, and teacher. As cellist in the Odysseus trio, and a previous member of the Zehetmair Quartet, Rosie performed throughout Europe and America’s concert halls. As guest principal cello, she has played with the orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Hallé, City of Birmingham Symphony orchestra amongst many others. She has broadcast on BBC Radio 3, Classic FM, WDR 3, and has appeared at major music festivals including Edinburgh, Aspen and Schleswig-Holstein. Having studied at Cambridge University, and Cologne Musikhochschule, Rosie is now a keen educator. She is a cello professor at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and teaches masterclasses annually at Cellofest.

Sara Trickey (violin)
Sara Trickey enjoys an exciting and diverse career as a solo violinist and chamber musician. Noted for her “fiery and passionate” performances (The Strad) and her “beautifully refined tone” (Musical Opinion), she performs at many of the major UK festivals and venues, including in the Presteigne, Alwyn, Oxford May Music, York, Ashburton and Wye Valley Chamber Music festivals. She plays regularly with pianist Dan Tong with whom she has recorded the Schubert Sonatinas to critical acclaim (“Irresistible!” – Barry Millington). A CD of Fauré and David Matthews has recently been released by Deux-Elles. She also made a world premiere recording of Mathias’ violin sonatas with Iwan Llewelyn Jones.
Sara has performed most of the repertoire for violin and orchestra, with orchestras that include the City of London Sinfonia and the Orchestra of St John’s (“The Beethoven violin concerto was quite simply perfection” – Seen and Heard International). She recently recorded the David Matthews double concerto for violin and viola with the English Symphony Orchestra and violist Sarah-Jane Bradley.
She is a founder member of the Odysseus Piano Trio and is currently a member of The Rossetti Ensemble. She plays in a violin duo with Andrew Watkinson, leader of the Endellion Quartet. Prior to forming these groups, Sara led the Bronte String Quartet for six years, winning the Royal Overseas League competition and second prize in the Cremona International Quartet competition.
Sara recently curated her own project Dancing With Apollo at Kings Place as part of the Spitalfields Festival. This was a multi-media project based around Greek myth. As well as music for violin and piano it included narration and dance involving collaborations with Dame Marina Warner, choreographer Kim Brandstrup and pianist Ivana Gavric.
She has also collaborated recently with Joffrey Ballet, based in Chicago, and choreographer Cathy Marston to create the short film Bertha with a score written for her playing solo violin accompanied by hand pans by Errollyn Wallen
Sara studied with Camilla Wicks and also was very much influenced by her studies at IMS Prussia Cove. She read Classics at Trinity Hall, Cambridge and this continues to be a passion. She also enjoys teaching, primarily at the Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Iwan Llewelyn-Jones (piano)
Described by the Daily Telegraph as ‘a pianist of impeccable taste, confidence and stylish sensitivity’, Iwan Llewelyn-Jones has firmly established himself as one of the finest pianists of his generation. He has performed at many of the world’s prestigious concert halls including the Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Leipzig Gewandhaus, and the Sydney Opera House. Iwan is the Artistic Director of the 2025 Wales International Piano Festival, having curated the previous two Festivals in 2016 and 2021. He has been the recipient of several awards and honours, including the Sir Geraint Evans Award in recognition of his significant contribution to Welsh music. Iwan is a Steinway Artist and combines a busy international performing schedule with his role as Senior Lecturer and Director of Music Performance at Bangor University.
